This sterling silver elephant calf necklace was inspired by a real-life encounter on the Limpopo River in Zimbabwe, experienced by Vanessa Bristow, Touran Bristow’s mother-in-law.
While sitting quietly at a natural spring, Vanessa was approached by a lone, frightened elephant calf. At first it ran, but the following day it returned—this time choosing trust over fear. As Vanessa gently reached out her hand, the calf stepped forward and placed its trunk into her palm. She named it Sizi, after the spring where they met.
With the help of Roxy Dankwerts and the Wild Is Life Elephant Sanctuary, Sizi was rescued, rehabilitated, and eventually released back into the wild.
